Memory Care Associates Become Certified Dementia Practitioners

Catholic Care Center has long been a leader in dementia care services. Our Memory Care program is the only program in Kansas to be recognized by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America as a Program of Distinction for Excellence in Dementia Care.

We are proud to serve seniors with dementia and are constantly exploring new ways to best support those with memory loss. Because of this dedication to memory support services, our Memory Care associates are working to become Certified Dementia Practitioners.

Veronica Vermillion, RN & Staff Educator, completed the course to become a Certified Dementia Practitioner trainer and is now hosting sessions on campus for Catholic Care Center associates.

This training Veronica provides outlines best practices for communicating with people who have dementia, overcoming obstacles during meals, providing personal care, and engaging with residents in stimulating and productive activities.

So far, eight of our Clinical Associates have become certified. While only licensed clinicians are eligible for certification, other associates including those from Environmental Services and Dietary Services can participate in the training. Veronica hopes to offer training for our entire Memory Care staff to ensure we continuously provide the best care possible.
